Cognos 10.1.1 Released – iPad Integration and Improved Business Insight Advanced

IBM releases Cognos 10.1.1 including native iPad app and improved Business Insight Advanced report authoring tool and connectivity to SAP and TM1.

Here is the blurb from IBM regarding the release of Cognos 10.1.1.  In summary it now has:

  1. a full native iPad application – please see the Apple App Store for more information on the Cognos iPad app.
  2. added features to the Business Insight Advanced authoring tool.
  3. improved dynamic queries.

IBM® Cognos® Business Intelligence V10.1.1 enables business users to access and analyze the information they need to improve decision making, gain better insight, and manage performance. IBM Cognos Business Intelligence solutions include software for query, reporting, analysis, and dashboards, as well as software to gather and organize the information from multiple sources. IBM Cognos Business Intelligence V10.1.1 extends these rich capabilities in the following areas:

Usage simplicity and visualization

  • Enhanced visualization in IBM Cognos Business Insight with the ability to display the content pane on the left or right, swap rows and columns to see an alternative view of the data, and resize charts.
  • Greater business authoring flexibility in IBM Cognos Business Insight Advanced with the ability to start in design view or preview mode, name report parts so they can be searched in IBM Cognos Business Insight, create custom groups, section data, and filtering and sorting on non-layout items.

Mobile application for the Apple iPad

  • Interactive native iPad application that enables mobile consumption of active report and HTML Studio reports. Users can leverage and interact with existing business intelligence (BI) content while connected or disconnected.

Faster queries and interactivity

  • Expanded dynamic query support to include IBM Cognos TM1®, IBM Cognos Real-time Monitoring, SAP BW, and Microsoft® SQL Server Analysis Services.
  • Dynamic query mode for OLAP over relational models and relational data sources for IBM DB2®, IBM DB2 z/OS®, Netezza, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, and Teradata.
  • Support for text in crosstabs.
  • 64-bit report server for dynamic query for use with dynamic query mode reports.

Leaner content store with content archiving

  • Archive saved report output content in an external repository to reduce content in the content store, and adhere to regulatory compliance. View archived content from IBM Cognos Connection and search archived content using indexed search. IBM Cognos Business Intelligence archiving uses the Content Management Interoperability Services (CMIS) specification, which is new to IBM FileNet® Content Manager V5.0.

IBM Cognos Business Intelligence V10.1.1 enhancements

Run reports with owner capabilities

  • Users can now run a report using specific capabilities granted to the owner of the report, even if they do not have these capabilities themselves. When a user runs a report with the Run as the owner capabilities only option selected, only the owner report capabilities are available to the user and not the owner credentials. The user’s credentials, not the report owner credentials, are used to run the report.

Native PostScript® for server-side printing

  • In order to remove the dependency on Adobe® Reader for server printing on UNIX® and LINUX platforms, a new PostScript printing mechanism has been provided. This enables you to use server printing without the need to have Adobe Reader installed. (Note: Adobe Reader is still required on the Windows® server platforms.)

Indic language support extended to PDFs and charts

  • Devanagari script-based language support is extended to include reports rendered in PDF and chart text, such as axis labels and titles.
